A Lazy Person’s Guide to Paleo Foods

Paleo is starting to become more familiar to Filipinos thanks to people like Iza Calzado and the like. A few  groups also decided to offer pre-packed Paleo meals like GoPaleo by Larissa and Paleo Manila to make it easily accessible to the Filipino on-the-go. But what exactly is the Paleo diet? Robb Wolf, one of the world’s leading expert in the diet explains Paleo as:

The Paleo diet is the healthiest way you can eat because it is the ONLY nutritional approach that works with your genetics to help you stay lean, strong and energetic! Research in biology, biochemistry, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and many other disciplines indicate it is our modern diet, full of refined foods, trans fats and sugar, that is at the root of degenerative diseases such as obesity, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, depression and infertilit

To give you a better explanation of what Paleo is, it is the cleanest eating lifestyle there is without needing to sacrifice a lot of food. Everything listed in this Paleo diet are good for you. It makes your body stronger and eventually, self-heals you.

The video below does not directly talk about Paleo but it pretty much explains the benefits of eating clean which is what the Paleo diet is all about.

This video is owned by Jonathan Bailor.

I am a firm believer in the Paleo diet. If you’ve been following what I’ve been eating week in and week out, you will see why I like it over the other diets out there. Basically, it has a wider list of foods that you are allowed to eat and since it is clean, there is no guilt feeling.

Here is a list I’ve taken off of http://www.mamakbest.com and let me explain some things. ALazyPersonsGuideToPaleoThe list above shows almost everything that is allowed to eat in the Paleo diet. I’ve taken the liberty and highlighted the items in BOLD which ones are easily and readily available in most supermarkets. These should be pretty easy to find in ShopWise, SM Hypermarket, and Tropical Hut Supermarket. Bigger stores such as S&R will definitely have almost everything listed.

I’ve also listed it to show everyone that it is not that expensive to maintain a Paleo lifestyle. The good thing is that you can eat Paleo without needing to always bring food from home. You can even have Paleo while eating at your favorite restaurant. Most restaurants will allow trade offs or simply avoid eating whatever is not listed.

If you don’t have the time to memorize this all, here are 5 things that you will need to remember to avoid:
1. All forms of grain – Yes, even wheat should be avoided.
2. All forms of legumes – Beans and peanuts (only) because a peanut is not a nut.
3. All forms of dairy – Any milk coming from animals.
4. All forms of processed sugar – The only acceptable sugar is muscovado and coco sugar.
5. All forms of processed salts – The only acceptable salt is kosher salt or sea salt. If you eat your food right after cooking it then you will not need to put salt. Trust me.

Notice something? I did not list any amount. You can eat as much as you can.

Try it and see how much stronger you will feel while naturally losing weight.
